protogen.chat is primarily a Matrix homeserver. This means you can use protogen.chat as your gateway to communicate with others on Matrix servers. You'll appear to others as @example:protogen.chat. Think of it like an email provider.
We also provide a matching subdomain to your Matrix account! Right now, you can just use it as a Bluesky handle (@example.protogen.chat), but there may be more uses in the future.
Protogens, protogen fans, furries and friends! Basically anyone friendly and respectful is welcome. But naturally, protogens are most common. Please note that currently all sign-ups are manually approved.
It's all run by Jax. They run the backend software on their Unraid server. It connects to a lightweight RackNerd VPS that acts as a proxy server via Tailscale VPN to expose public services to the internet. That way Jax doesn't have to directly expose their local machine on their home internet connection.
